Glossy Album Review – Christina Aguilera’s Bionic
Christina Aguilera is back with her brand new studio album “Bionic” and after taking a break from the music scene, the singer is back with a vengeance! Christina’s first album in four years since the release of “Back To Basics”, is slickly produced and has the perfect balance of club bangers and signature Aguilera style ballads. The uptempo songs on the album show a different side to Xtina, her experimentation with a more futuristic sound is evident but not overdone. The list of producers and songwriters Xtina collaborated with also show the new direction she’s chosen and it has paid off! The list includes Polow da Don, Linda Perry, Sia, M.I.A., Le Tigre, Peaches & Nicki Minaj.
Listening to the uptempos, it’s obvious that it’s hard for a powerhouse vocalist like Xtina to cut back a little and let the music do the talking. It can sometimes seem like a battle between Xtina’s vocals and the backing track on songs like lead single ‘Not Myself Tonight’ but on ballads ‘Stronger Than Ever’ & ‘You Lost Me’ is where Xtina really shines and shows that she is still a force to be reckoned with. Don’t get me wrong though, this is a full on party album and the majority of the songs are fierce uptempos that will get you in the mood for a celebration. Stand out tracks include album title track ‘Bionic’ which is one of the most “futuristic” sounding songs on the album. Others include ‘WooHoo’ ft female rapper of the moment Nicki Minaj, a raunchy little number with Xtina telling you to ‘Kiss all over my WooHoo’ and I’m sure you can guess what that means! Glam, Elastic Love, Vanity, Desnudate & Prima Donna are all super sexy, slickly produced and party ready! Weaker uptempos on the album are ‘I Hate Boys’ & ‘My Girls’ which come across as a little immature for a woman who claims to have grown up after becoming a mother, but on the other hand, both songs are very commercial and would most likely be a hit with the girls, especially if those girls are going on a road trip. Moving onto ballads, the best of the bunch are ‘I Am’, ‘You Lost Me’ & ‘Stronger Than Ever’. These are what the loyal Xtina fans will appreciate the most because the songs are relatable and Xtina makes them even more convincing by singing each line with passion.
Overall, this album is a winner and should please old and new Christina fans. Reviews have been mostly mixed or negative, but right now this is my album of the moment! Even though I’m a guy and the majority of the songs are aimed at girls, I’m a sucker for an album that contains such hot club bangers with amazing production , and this delivers on that!
It’s great to have you back Xtina!!!
