Glossy Blogger Grace Gets Cultured!

Living in London, I always feel incredibly lucky to have access to the best in culture on an every day basis. Even luckier, is the fact that access to the city’s world-renowned museums and galleries is FREE.

Relishing in an impromptu afternoon off from work, I wandered down to the National Portrait Gallery; one of my favourite places to explore on my own–getting lost in my imagination of all the different lives and thoughts of those captured by the artists. Much to my delight, the BP Portrait Award 2010 exhibit opened yesterday and was free for all visitors. The show, which runs through until the 19th of September, is the most prestigious portrait competition in the world, and promotes the very best artists in contemporary portrait painting. A few highlights include: Chelsea College of Art student, Oscar Burnett’s “The Player?” oil on canvas painting, Darren Coffield’s acrylic on canvas portrait of Nova magazine fashion editor and trend-setting celeb Molly Parkin, Brian Shields’ “Inside Outside (Clare with Claire)” and Elizabeth McDonald’s “Don’t Be Too Serious.” Londoners mark your calendars, and make some time to admire these incredible works before it’s too late. Oh, and don’t forget to check out Alex Katz’s massive, bright yellow portrait of Anna Wintour on your way out!
