Glossy Meets…. Phoks!

When we needed a kick ass illustration for the opening page of our sixth issue something subversive and eye catching we knew just who to call upon – French Art Director, Photographer and Illustrator Phoks of course!

His unique digital art has been featured everywhere from Kanye West’s blog to trendy design blogs and now Glossy!

We caught up with him for a chat.

Glossy: When did you first realize you had a talent for drawing?

Phoks: I’ve realized this during my childhood. But I think this is a gift from God.

Glossy: Are you currently working as a full time illustrator ?

Phoks: I’m involved in many projects as a freelancer, like photography, illustration, 3D artistry, and also as an Art Director. illustration is only one part of my work.

Glossy: Where do you find your inspiration?

Phoks: I find inspiration in many things, for example: the Holy Bible, nature, graffiti, fashion, Japanese design, mannerism, shapes or colors and much more… I have a rich source of inspiration.

Glossy: Which artists, other illustrators, models inspire you?

Phoks: I simply love Magda Antoniuk’s style. She’s a talented illustrator.

Glossy: What’s your ultimate ambition ?

Phoks: I’m working to open my own shop. :)

Glossy: What are your favorites blogs/magazines ?

Phoks: PhoksBlog :) , StyleRookie, Jakandjil and also Hypebeast is a best one…

Glossy: What’s a typical day in your life?

Phoks: 1: For me every day is different. I don’t get up early in the morning, because I work late the night before.

2: In the morning I thank God for another day, I take my breakfast in front of the computer, I answer to my e-mails and I update my blog.

3: I’m working on my creations: fashion shoots, illustrations, retouching.

3: In the second part of the day: I work on my online shop, toys, design and t-shirts.

4: At the end of day: I cut inspirational pages from Vogue magazine, for my mood board, I create new ideas and I draw a lot until very late at night.

5: I pray and I go to bed at about 4:15.

Glossy: What projects are you currently working on?

Phoks: I’m involved into a lot of awesome projects. I’m working on an article for a fashion illustration book – with practical techniques for aspiring fashion illustrators – which will be launched soon; I’m also drawing fashion illustrations for ICONIQUE Fashion Magazine ‘s cover.  I’m creating the directions to a video clip art and I’m doing photo shoots for a french artist (GLORY), and also working on my online shop.

Glossy: How do you see your work evolving into the future?

Phoks: A lot of collaborations and an exhibition are coming out. I’m really excited to continue to develop my own work. And also I’m planning a trip to New York for new partnerships.
