Glossy Movie Review – The Karate Kid

Let’s face it the words “remake” often result in a poorly rehashed version of something that bears little resemblance to the original. So it was with trepidation that we entered the screening of the “The Karate Kid” starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
But literally 20 minutes into the film we were glued to the action. The main premise of the movie involves Dre Parker (played by Jaden Smith) moving to China with his mother where he gets horribly bullied by a group of local boys. He turns to Jackie Chan’s character “Mr Han” to teach him Kung Fu and in process also learns about friendship, loyalty and determination. Although the famous “wax on, wax off” scene is missing from this version the astoundingly realistic fight scenes, Jaden Smith’s cuteness and charisma, the beauty of the Beijing landscape and the emotional resonance of the plot more than make up for it.
We went in to see the movie skeptics and came out total converts. This movie is a 5 out of 5 a real must see! Karate Kid, Glossy salutes you!
